September 2020 City Wide Sales

Thrift sales abound in Chippewa Falls, starting on Thursday and are scheduled through Saturday. Often, homeowners close early on Saturdays so follow sage advice and get there early. http://chippewacitywide.com/

Red Cross Blood Drive at Moose Lodge

Monday was my second attempt at giving blood and my hemoglobin was high enough at 13.3 mg/DL to donate. It took just about 5 minutes to fill the bag and another minute to fill the 6 vials for testing.

The Moose Lodge had a few other people there and one donor was joking that the playlist of classic rock and country wasn’t relaxing. He suggested Brian Eno which got no recognition from the nurses. They were wrapping up a long day and I was probably one of their last donors before closing.

Small Bear on North Side

Upon checking the DNR camera recently, these photos surprised me. A small bear had been around on August 31. The other photos of a young deer and squirrels were unsurprising, but I recoiled at the swarm of five raccoons in the yard at night. I later found out that they are called a gaze of raccoons. They have not been a nuisance yet.

Once again, River Bend Winery and Distillery hosted a Saturday food truck. River Bend is on 103rd Street which terminates in a boat landing on the Chippewa River. Circle M Nursery and a little cemetery labeled Rummery can also be found along this road.

New Historic Photo Wrap on River Street

A new historic photo wrap appeared on River Street near Riverfront Park. The scene depicted is from 1896 on Spring Street, looking West. Gaber Signs made the wrap for the Chippewa Falls Main Street organization.

Beerfest and Food Trucks at the Fairgrounds

Beerfest took the place of the larger scale Oktoberfest this weekend at the Fairgrounds. Cranes could be spotted on the grounds, perhaps puzzled by the human ritual of group intoxication.

Northside Notes: September 18, 2020

A showing of The Lion King took place at the Chippewa Fairgrounds at 6:30PM Friday evening.

Elsewhere, the Leinie Lodge was closed for Employee Appreciation Day and Holy Ghost on the Southside hosted an Oktoberfest brat drive-through.
