Spooky Halloween Night

Under the full moon, local residents found unique ways to celebrate Halloween across town.

Cars lined up and the Fairgrounds once again hosted music into the night.

Mulling over Halloween

While Autumn Harvest Winery closed out their season last Saturday with the Marigold Cafe serving food outside, River Bend Winery is celebrating Halloween as they can by serving Mulled Wine and hosting a pet costume party in the lawn.

A rare Halloween “blue” moon is expected on this year’s somber holiday. Our Northside home near Ojibwa Golf Course has decorations and gift bags on the porch and a friend of mine on Prairie Street is doing something similar for any folks seeking safe yet sort of traditional trick-or-treating.

Traffic Tangle for Trunk-or-Treat
The Chippewa Falls Main Street Organization hosted a Halloween candy handout at the Chippewa Fairground from 3-5PM on Friday, October 30. Cars lined up as far back as High Street downtown causing the Northbound lane on Jefferson Ave to be totally impassable. This segued into music in the evening that could be heard thumping away until at least 10PM.

Farmers Markets Almost Over for Season
Looks like Farmers Market season in Chippewa Falls is officially closed. No vendors showed up on Thursday, October 29 at Allen Park.

Eau Claire’s last market is from 7:30-1 on Saturday, Oct 31. Samhain is traditionally the final harvest holiday before Yule so Happy Halloween everyone!
Slow 2020 at the Fairgrounds Draws to a Close

After hosting a blowout concert last week that literally shook the town, the Fairgrounds has a light schedule the rest of the year. In 2020, Springfest and the Fair were canceled and several smaller scale affairs took place, including the Region 1 Holstein Show, three Fair Food Shindigs, a play, a kid’s sale, a quilt show and Beer Fest as well as several pop-up movies and concerts.

This Saturday morning is time for fall cleaning with the bi-annual Clean Sweep and next week, a drive-through Halloween is scheduled from 3-5PM on Oct 30.

October Snow Burst

You may have noticed the sudden onset of winter precipitation. The streets were slushy and some hills were unassailable without four wheel drive. I saw a car with flashers on, apparently stuck on the approach to the Park Avenue ramp off of South Hwy 124.

The National Weather Service at Eau Claire Regional Airport (KEAU) showed 6/10″ at 6:56PM and is anticipating 1-3″ overnight.
