Veteran’s Bridge Cleaning

One lane of the Veteran’s Bridge Northbound is closed while workers spray around the railing.

Northside Notes: July 31

I went out to a few places to stock up on food and parked on the side of Walgreen’s parking lot that wasn’t being blacktopped. The petroleum smell was strong. I assume the other side is next.

Walgreen’s lot half blocked off for new blacktop

That evening at Kwik Trip on Grand Avenue, I was asked by a young man on a Honda scooter, wearing a Bunny Skull mask, if I knew anything about scooters. He couldn’t get it started, because it was his friend’s and he didn’t understand it. I was tempted to ask “Why are you wearing that stupid bunny mask?” but I was afraid he would retort, “Why are you wearing that stupid human mask?” to which I didn’t have a reply.

A skull-like Halloween mask similar to Frank’s in Donnie Darko

Anyway, the key he was trying to use looked like it fit a padlock and when I asked if it was the right one, he immediately remembered that it was the key that said Honda which started the scooter and felt silly. He turned the ignition and took off with a pointing acknowledgment of my wisdom. Anyway, it felt nice to be of help, even though I wondered if the masked man had been a vision of my imagination.

Grand Ave Utility Box Graphic

Utility box on street corner with historical scene of children wading in Duncan Creek

The latest utility box graphic is on the corner of Rushman and Grand Ave, next to site of the old Mason Shoe Factory. However the scene depicted is Duncan Creek in Irvine Park. I am wondering though, “Isn’t it backwards?”

Park Avenue Reopens

A steady stream of bikes and cars were taking advantage of the newly paved road and pedestrian path on Park Avenue. Opened well ahead of schedule.
