Slow 2020 at the Fairgrounds Draws to a Close

After hosting a blowout concert last week that literally shook the town, the Fairgrounds has a light schedule the rest of the year. In 2020, Springfest and the Fair were canceled and several smaller scale affairs took place, including the Region 1 Holstein Show, three Fair Food Shindigs, a play, a kid’s sale, a quilt show and Beer Fest as well as several pop-up movies and concerts.

This Saturday morning is time for fall cleaning with the bi-annual Clean Sweep and next week, a drive-through Halloween is scheduled from 3-5PM on Oct 30.

October Snow Burst

You may have noticed the sudden onset of winter precipitation. The streets were slushy and some hills were unassailable without four wheel drive. I saw a car with flashers on, apparently stuck on the approach to the Park Avenue ramp off of South Hwy 124.

The National Weather Service at Eau Claire Regional Airport (KEAU) showed 6/10″ at 6:56PM and is anticipating 1-3″ overnight.

Bird Nest Moves to Holcombe

116 North Bridge St has been a revolving door for businesses for years and the latest ex-store front is The Bird Nest Home Decoration. The silver lining is that they are moving to Holcombe and according to Facebook, will open there on October 10. Good luck!

Historic Photo Wrap on Spring and Bridge Streets

Chippewa Falls Main Street has wrapped one more utility box with a historic photo. This one is of bikes in front of Lueck’s Cycle Service which was located at 7 Spring Street, current location of Bourget Insurance. Year, about 1937. The non-extant Empire block can be seen next door to the right.

Rainbow Wows Chippewa Falls Residents

While local officials, philanthropists and news people gathered for a scheduled event on Bridgewater, a mix of sun and storm clouds spontaneously combined to create a moment that stopped downtowners on the street in their tracks.

Sunday Fall Activities in Lafayette

Dick’s Chalet near Lake Wissota hosted Sunday Funday with music by the Part-Time Duo and Bubbie’s BBQ.

Meanwhile, more locals gathered at Autumn Harvest Winery for day two of their Fall Festival with music by Irie Sol and the Marigold Cafe food truck. The crowd was smaller than Saturday, but the reggae from the stage sparked a spontaneous dance floor.
